Here's how it works: each week, 97.3 ESPN presents a new batch of local student-athletes who have proven themselves worthy in their respective fields.

You can then vote for your pick and hear the winner announced Saturday morning on 97.3 ESPN.

Here are this week's candidates:


Donald Baigle, Soccer, MillvilleHe notched the game-winning goal in overtime against CAL rival Atlantic City. Baigle gave the Thunderbolts a 2-1 win when he connected on a score six minutes into the extra session.

Kailey Stangle, Field Hockey, MainlandShe scored three goals against Buena, leading the Mustangs to an impressive 6-1 victory.

Anthony DiOrio, Football, Shawnee – The senior cruised past Kingsway defenders in Shawnee’s West Jersey Football League opener. DiOrio accounted for 173 rushing yards on 20 carries in a 25-19 victory.

Shannon Murphy, Soccer, Atlantic ChristianShe blanked Baptist Regional with a dominant performance in net. The goalie secured 14 saves, leading Atlantic Christian to a 1-0 win.

Logan Sheehan, Football, Southern RegionalThe Rams’ new starting quarterback enjoyed quite a debut against Freehold Township, passing for 150 yards and three touchdowns. Sheehan, a senior, added 38 rushing yards in a 26-6 win.
