U.S. Coast Guard crews from Air Station Atlantic City medevaced a 71-year-old man who was suffering from possible kidney failure aboard a cruise ship that was 50 miles east of Ocean City Friday evening.

The Coast Guard says the captain of the Anthem of the Seas contacted watchstanders around 6:20 Friday evening.

A crew from Air Station Atlantic City hoisted the man aboard a helicopter and brought him to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City.

In a press release, Petty Officer 1st Class Charles Reaves, operations unit controller at the command center, said, "It is imperative to alert the Coast Guard to these emergencies as soon as possible. In this case, the timely notification allowed our crews to reach the man and deliver him to higher medical care quickly and efficiently."
