No active flames but a small forest fire that ignited at around 3:10 this afternoon near the Forked River Marina is still smoldering, according to Lacey Police Chief Bill Nally.

State forest fire service says the wildfire is 80 percent contained but crews are at the scene dousing hot spots. Officials were concerned earlier because the fire threatened several homes along east lake side drive. No structures were damaged.

Assistant Fire Warden John Reith says the fire burned six acres of marsh land and a half acre of forest crews are near Lake Side Drive. No evacuation was necessary but some residents left on their own. Police also went door to door to check on residents.
