An absolute tragedy in Cumberland County: a 10-year-old girl was shot and killed on Sunday night in what appears to be a drive-by shooting.

Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae says at around 11:15 on the night of the 4th of July, Vineland Police were dispatched to Inspira Medical Center in the city after a 10-year-old girl who was shot died from her injuries.

In a press release, authorities say the girl was shot at a home in the 700 block of West Earl Drive in Vineland in what appears to be a drive-by shooting.

Webb-McRae says investigators are working to determine who was the intended target of the shooting.

Anyone with information about this crime is urged to contact the prosecutor's office at (609) 579-1431.

Residents in the area of W. Earl Drive, E. Earl Drive, Earl Drive and Park Towne Apartments, Diane Court, Mary Court and Shirley Court within the area of S. West Avenue and W. Chestnut Avenue with home security cameras are being asked to share any footage from Sunday night between 9:30 and 11:30 with police.
