Do You Remember Fun City in Sea Isle?

“Fun City” lit up in glowing neon lights against the Sea Isle sky. The flying elephant ride and the sound of little kids laughing as they enjoy a night out with their family. If this sounds familiar you might know that I’m talking about the old amusement park that used to inhabit 33 and Landis Ave in Sea Isle City.

Growing up I remember visiting Fun City often in the summertime. It was a smaller amusement park in comparison to other beach towns but it was still home to many kiddie rides, including a giant slide and tilt-a-whirl.

My favorite ride at “Fun City” was the bumper boats, which operated like bumper cars except you were in a motorized float on top of a pool of water.

Originally owned by an electrician in town this amusement park was shut down in 1999 due to its owner’s retirement. A businessman tried to purchase the park to continue its operation but was beat out by contractors. The lot now is home to a cluster of townhouses.
