Alex Trebek’s Final Words for South Jersey: “Stay Well”

Game show legend Alex Trebek passed away over the weekend at the age of 80 and before he left us he wished us well.

As a game show fanatic, I was really saddened to learn of the passing of Alex. And I refer to him only by his first name with no disrespect intended, in fact, just the opposite. I never knew him nor did I ever meet him, but when you see someone do the same thing for such a long time, especially in the world of television where people come into your home everyday, it feels like you know them.

Alex Trebek hosted game shows for 47 years. He started as the host of The Wizard of Odds before going onto shows like Double Dare (not the Nickelodeon show), Classic Concentration, and High Rollers just to name a few on a very long list -- but it was the 36 years he spent hosting Jeopardy! that made him a household name.

Jeopardy! debuted back in 1964 and it ran for about 11 years with Art Fleming as host. The series returned for very brief periods of time in the mid to late 70s, but it wasn't until September 10, 1984, that Alex Trebek first hosted the answer-and-question show and the rest is history.

According to The Los Angeles Times, Alex was in the studio as recently as October 29th filming new shows while he battled pancreatic cancer.

His final program is set to air on Christmas Day night.

While doing some reading about Alex's career over the weekend, I stumbled upon a video from channel 6. According to WPVI, just a few weeks ago, Mr. Trebek recorded a short video for the station's Thanksgiving Day celebration. His final words for South Jersey and the Delaware Valley, "stay well, everyone."
