PA Man Indicted on 17 Counts, Including for Shooting a Cop in Gloucester County, NJ

Cops say a man from Delaware County, PA, has been indicted on 17 charges, including two counts of first-degree attempted murder, in connection to a two-state incident this past summer where a police officer was shot and wounded.

41-year-old Arthur DiSanto, Jr., who was also wounded on the night of August 23rd, is facing the following charges, according to Acting Camden County Prosecutor Jill Mayer:

• Two Counts of Attempted Murder (1st Degree)
• Two Counts of Aggravated Assault (2nd Degree)
• Two Counts of Aggravated Assault (3rd Degree)
• Two Counts of Aggravated Assault (4th Degree)
• Two Counts of Resisting Arrest (3rd Degree)
• Two Counts of Resisting Arrest (4th Degree)
• Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (1st Degree)
• Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (2nd Degree)
• Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose (2nd Degree)
• Receiving Stolen Property (3rd Degree)
• Certain Persons Not to Possess a Weapon (2nd Degree)
• Possession of a Weapon by Certain Offender (1st Degree)

Mayer's office says,

DiSanto was originally wanted for allegedly shooting a woman in Media, PA in July 2021. He evaded capture from police in Delaware County earlier in the night on August 23rd. He fled from officers in PA using a police vehicle he stole from the Folcroft Police Department. He drove to Gloucester County, NJ, where he encountered various members of law enforcement and attempted to evade arrest again.

During one of those encounters, a Monroe Township police officer was shot in the hand and ear during an exchange of gunfire with DiSanto. Authorities say he also fired at a Deptford Township officer.

The Monroe Township officer was treated and released from a nearby hospital. DiSanto, who was shot three times by police, according to WPVI-TV, was treated at Cooper Hospital in Camden.

The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
