Atlantic City Police say a motor vehicle stop led to the arrest of a man in possession of almost two pounds of synthetic cannabinoids.

According to police, the scene unfolded just before 1AM on July 19th when an officer witnessed a car not stop for a red light at Tennessee and Baltic Avenues. The vehicle was stopped in the 200 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard.

A press release details what happened...

Upon speaking with the driver, Henry Paredes, Officer Ivanov could smell marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Paredes initially refused to provide his driver’s license or information for the vehicle. After several minutes, Paredes provided a fake name. A computer check revealed the information to be false. The vehicle also did not belong to Paredes.

Paredes was asked to exit the vehicle but refused. He began to roll his window up when Officer Ivanov opened his car door. Paredes exited the vehicle after several more requests. Paredes’s identification was located in his pocket and he was found to have an active warrant. In the vehicle, Officer Ivanov located almost two pounds of synthetic cannabinoid, sandwich bags and small zip-lock bags. Paredes was arrested.

Atlantic City Police say synthetic cannabinoids, commonly referred to as "K2" or "Spice," can cause the user to act confused, delusional, anxious, or hallucinate.

33-year-old Henry Paredes of Atlantic City was charged with possession of a synthetic cannabinoid, possession with intent to distribute, hinder apprehension, and several traffic summons. He was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
