If you have ever been thrown off the Atlantic City Boardwalk for biking after 10 a.m. (I have), you are about to get a two-hour reprieve.

Beginning today, the hours you can ride your bike on the Atlantic City Boardwalk have been expanded from 10 a.m. until noon.

A divided City Council voted 5-4 last week to increase the in-season biking time from 6 a.m. to noon between May 15 and Sept. 15. Bicycles are allowed 24 hours at other times of the year.

The expanded hours are intended to allow down beach bikers more time to access Boardwalk businesses.

The City Council decision on biking hours expansion met with opposition from senior citizens who complained that the bike traffic can make it hard to cross the Boardwalk.
