53 years ago today, George Jones scored his first number one country single with "White Lightning."

Written by J. P. Richardson, "White Lightning" would be just the beginning of a long and amazing career for George Jones. Over the past half century, he's had nearly 150 hit songs with 15 hitting the top spot on the charts. He's also been inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, a Kennedy Center Honoree, and holds a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
