The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office says Nicholas A. Abbati of Egg Harbor Township was convicted on Wednesday for the murder of Jahlil Hunter, the attempted murder of Ebony Harris, and for third degree Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose.

Authorities say on the night of Wednesday, December 23, 2015, Pleasantville Police responded to a home on the 100 block of Greenfield Avenue. 30-year-old Jahlil Hunter and 22-year-old Ebony Harris, both of Pleasantville, were both found inside the house bleeding and suffering from significant physical trauma.

Hunter died on January 3, 2016, as a result of the injuries sustained. A medical examiner determined Hunter died as a result of multiple blunt force injuries to the head. Harris was in a coma for months and has sustained lifelong injuries.

BreakingAC.com reported Abbati saw the killing, “as a way to come up on the streets. As a way to get respect. As a way to get money,” Chief Assistant Prosecutor Seth Levy said during an opening statement of the trial. Levy said Hunter was Abbati’s drug dealer.

Sentencing is scheduled for May 10th.
