Verizon has finally unveiled technology to automatically block robocalls on your smart phone. What we want to know is, what took so long?

The nation's largest wireless provider is now providing free spam alerting and robocall blocking tools for wireless customers who have smartphones that can support the features, including Android and iPhones.

This free layer of defense against spam is something that Verizon customers have lacked until now, despite other carriers already offering it. Until now, Call Filter was only available for an extra charge of $2.99, which still exists as a premium service.

According to a press release, Verizon is now offering a free version of the robo-blocker Call Filter...

The company’s free Call Filter product offers wireless customers new protection from robocalls. With it, customers can get alerts when a call is likely spam, report unsolicited numbers, and automatically block robocalls based on their preferred level of risk.

To activate Call Filter, you can install Verizon’s dedicated app for it — here for Android and here for iPhones— or just enable the protection as an account add-on in your My Verizon app or the company’s website.
