Hope you can go 58 miles on the GSP without stopping!

The New Jersey Turnpike Authority announced that the Forked River Service Plaza will close for construction in September. A complete overhaul is expected with a new facility slated to open by Memorial Day 2020.

Everything at the rest stop will be closed including restaurants, gas, restrooms, and commuter and oversized parking.

The Patch was wise to point out that this will leave quite a gap for travelers. The nearest GSP service plazas are 24 miles to the north in Monmouth and 34.6 miles to the south in Atlantic county.

Just a heads up, if you park in the Forked River lot to take the bus to the city, your nearest option will be northbound 91 in Brick.

This remodel is planned to be very similar to the one that occurred at the Monmouth rest stop which reopened in the Spring.
