Popular Lambertville, NJ bridge to fully close next week
🔴 Lambertville-New Hope bridge will close on Monday
🔴 Pedestrians will need to take a shuttle
🔴 Closest detour for vehicles includes toll
LAMBERTVILLE — After months of delays, crews are close to completing work on the New Hope-Lambertville Bridge.
It's welcome news for anyone who walks or drives across the narrow 15 mph stretch crossing the Delaware River.
The bridge has been closed to traffic coming from Pennsylvania since January. In the meantime, pedestrians have been using temporary plastic walkways to get back and forth since mid-July.
However, it's going to fully close before work on the bridge is done.
Walkway will be closed to pedestrians
The bridge will close in both directions for cars and foot traffic starting Monday, Jan. 13.
The closure will last around two weeks as long as there are no storm delays, according to the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission. It will reopen no later than Jan. 27.
A free shuttle service will be the only way for pedestrians to get from one town to another. The free service will take the Route 202 bridge and each trip will be around 15 minutes.
Two shuttles will operate daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., while an extended service with one shuttle will run from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.
There will be only one drop-off/pick-up stop each in Lambertville and New Hope.
In Lambertville, the stop will be along Bridge Street near the Bank of Princeton building.
In New Hope, the stop will be by the park benches on the northbound side of North Main Street near the PNC Bank/Starbucks building.

Detour for vehicles includes toll
While the shuttle service for pedestrians is free, the closest detour for vehicles will add an extra charge.
The detour to Route 202 has a toll for traffic heading into Pennsylvania from New Jersey.

With E-ZPass, most vehicles including cars, motorcycles, and vans will be charged $1.50. Those same vehicles without E-ZPass will be charged $3 via Toll-by-Plate. There are no cash tolls on the Route 202 bridge.
Drivers who want to avoid a toll can use the Centre Bridge-Stockton Bridge, located just over three miles to the north, or the narrow Washington Crossing Bridge around seven miles south.
