After 13 Years, Police Solve Jersey Shore Murder Case

A 13-year-old murder case has finally been solved and the police have got their men.

On Tuesday, Ocean County First Assistant Prosecutor Michael Nolan announced the arrest of 36-year-old Maurice Cole and 41-year-old Jerron Evans.

Both men of Lakewood have been charged in connection with murder in the death of Rondell Proctor.

The murder occurred in May of 2010 in Toms River.

During the early morning hours of May 27, 2010, Toms River Township Police were dispatched to the Winteringham Village Apartments off Route 166 in the township for a report of a shooting.

Officers arrived on the scene to find 22-year-old Rondell Proctor of Arkansas with multiple gunshot wounds to the torso, as well as Proctor's face.

The man was rushed to the Community Medical Center in the township where he was pronounced dead

Despite intense efforts by the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Major Crime Unit and the Toms River Township Police Department, the case remained unsolved for years.

As time passed, technology improved, and the continuing investigation and testing of evidential items resulted in the charges against the two men.

On Tuesday, December 3, detectives from the Ocean County Prosector's Office Major Crime Unit, in coordination with the Toms River Township Police Department, Lakewood Township Police Department, and Ocean County Regional SWAT Team moved in to take Cole and Evans into custody without incident.

The men were taken to the Ocean County Jail where they await a detention hearing.
