The Atlantic City Air Show is flying South.

A report says the Wildwoods have signed a contract to serve as the new home of the airshow beginning this summer.

This news comes after the Greater Atlantic City Chamber of Commerce announced in December that "Thunder Over the Boardwalk" was being canceled for the second straight year.

The Wildwoods Take Over A.C. Airshow

Fox 29's Bob Kelly posted on Facebook Wednesday saying he heard from Air Force officials that they had signed a contract with the Wildwoods to host the show beginning in September 2025.

"Air Force officials tell me the Wildwoods have signed a contract to become the new home of the former "Atlantic City Air Show" this September 5th & 6th on the beach in Wildwood, NJ.

It will be called "Wildwoods Thunder Over the Waves"" Air Show! While the show will be visible throughout the Wildwoods, the main  area will be 22nd Ave in North Wildwood to Hand Avenue in Wildwood!"

Sources say that the Air Force Thunderbirds and the Navy Blue Angels will not be available for this Wildwood air show, nor would they have been available if the show was still held in Atlantic City this summer.

The length of the new contract for the air show in Wildwood is unknown.

Atlantic City Canceled Airshow for Two Consecutive Years

There had been rumors of a possible move for the Airshow since Atlantic City called off the annual show for the second consecutive summer.

“After careful consideration, the Atlantic City Airshow will take a strategic pause for 2025. We will use this time to reevaluate the overall operations of the show – reevaluating community engagement, assessing costs, reviewing logistics and creatively considering what future Atlantic City Airshows could look like. It is our sincere hope that we will once again be in a position to hold an Airshow in 2026.”

In 2024, the airshow was canceled after officials said that a major act withdrew from the show.

Atlantic City Loses a Summer Tradition

Thunder Over the Boardwalk, which began in 2003, featured the U.S.A.F. Thunderbirds, the U.S. Army Golden Knights, the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and many other popular flying aviation teams and demonstrations over the years.

The airshow was one of the largest shows in North America, attracting more than 500,000 people to the area on a weekday in August and bringing in a $50 million economic boom for Atlantic City.

The show was unique for being held on the beach and for being held on a Wednesday.
