NJ Dogfighting Suspect Now Facing Major Drug Charges
Bruce Low Jr., the alleged leader of a 2024 Cumberland County dogfighting ring who was thought to have been one of the top five dogfighting breeders in the country at the time, is now facing charges of drug production and distribution.
Low was arrested at his home in Maurice River Township on Monday with a stash of opioids, drug packaging, and distribution materials.
NJ.com reports that NJ State Police wrote in the affidavit of probable cause that U.S. customs officials intercepted a package sent from India that was addressed to Low and contained more than six kilograms of the opioid tapentadol.
Police made a staged delivery of the drug to Low on Monday and then issued a search warrant for his property.
Police Find a Drug Packaging and Distribution Operation
NJ.com says Low was found with the open package of tapentadol, along with liquid morphine and drug paraphernalia items used for drug packaging and distribution.
Police say they found grinders, mixers, pressing items, cutting agents, scales, packaging materials, and cash.
Low allegedly admitted on a recording to ordering and receiving the drugs and owning the packaging items.
He was charged with a variety of first, second, and third-degree drug possession andCumberland County distribution charges and is being held in the Cumberland County Jail.
Low's Dogfighting Indictment
Low was one of eight people arrested in April 2024 when 103 fighting dogs, fighting equipment, and other materials were recovered during a raid on his property at Route 49 and Hesstown Road near Millville.
Low and the others were finally indicted last month on charges that include dogfighting, money laundering, and racketeering.
Money from the dog-fighting and selling operation was allegedly laundered through a construction company based on the Maurice River Township property, according to 6ABC.
Low, Jr. previously served time in prison in 2006 for federal drug and weapons charges.
