Is it Time to do Away with Thanksgiving in New Jersey?
My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving.
No other holidays even come close as far as I'm concerned.
Thanksgiving has it all.
🍗 Family gathering
🍗 Great food
🍗 Day off from work (for a lot of people)
🍗 Creates a 4-day weekend for many people
🍗 Great backstory
So with all these great things about the holiday, why in the world should we consider ending it?
It pains me to say this, but things have changed.
Thanksgiving is the forgotten holiday.
Oh, sure, they still have the big parades, which are cool, but how many people actually care about those parades?
I went to the store the other day, and that's when it occurred to we need to re-consider Thanksgiving as a holiday.
I see tons of Christmas specials.
There are displays everywhere. Great Christmas savings, the signs say.
My wife insisted we put up the tree the day after Halloween, which is a new record for us.
Then she broke out all kinds of Christmas ornaments and decorations.
You know what we don't have?

We don't have any Thanksgiving decorations.
Try talking about Thanksgiving, and no one ever talks about how much fun it will be to get together and gossip about family and friends.
The talk will be about who is making the trip to join us.
Now that the kids are married, it seems like one of them is always due to be with their other family.
Oh, and even the story of Thanksgiving has come under attack.
I know many people would argue that if we ended Thanksgiving, we wouldn't get the day off from work.
Maybe we could just change the holiday to something like a holiday prep weekend.
It could be a day when we all get a 4-day weekend to make final preparations for the upcoming holiday season.
Or perhaps we can end Thanksgiving and make Festivus an official national holiday.
Festivus could be a day of unification for all, regardless of our religious beliefs.
It could be a day when families gather and share their grievances with each other.
Its worth consideration.
