The REAL Deal About New Facebook Terms NJ Users Need to Know
🔺 Facebook has instituted new terms of service
🔺 By using Facebook, you are permitting them to use your data, pics, and words.
🔺 Don't waste time pressing buttons, or clipping and pasting. The only way to opt out is to stop using FB.
It's the new year, and I've begun to notice some of my friends posting about the "new Facebook rules."
The posts start like this,
Hello It’s official. Signed at 3.23 PM. It was even on TV. Mine really turned blue. Don't forget that tomorrow starts the new Facebook rule (aka... new name, META) where they can use your photos. Don't forget the deadline is today!!!
Then they declared, “I do not give Facebook permission to use my pictures or posts!”
They also post instructions that may include holding down a button, copying and pasting something (heck, you may as well tap your head and spin three times. None of this matters.)
Also, they throw in some legal jargon about new rule changes that don’t exist.
According to the show 60 Minutes:Just in case you missed it: a lawyer advised us to post this. The violation of privacy can be punished by law NOTE: Facebook Meta is now a public entity. Every member must post a note like this. If you do not publish a statement at least once, it will be technically understood that you are allowing the use of your photos, as well as the information contained in your profile status updates.
The more people share these posts, the more they multiply.
Trust me. Keep reading.
This year, Facebook did make changes to its terms of use, and they kicked in on January 1st.
Now, here’s the thing to keep in mind: as the saying goes, "Nothing is free."
Sure, we don’t pay cash to use Facebook or other platforms, but we’re still giving something up—our data.
Every time we log on, Facebook is collecting information about us. It’s kind of like a barter system, except instead of cash, we’re handing over our personal details.
Think about it.
We’re being tracked pretty much everywhere we go online, and there's really no escaping it.
That's not all.
Our phones are tracking what we talk about and where we go. Even when the power is off.
Try this sometime, sit in a room and talk about a car or furniture.
There's a very good chance you'll soon start seeing ads on Facebook for cars and furniture.
Crazy stuff, right?
When you play games online or do one of those Facebook things where you maybe change your face, or create memes...
They are collecting your data.
While you can’t stop the trackers completely, you can still be mindful of what you share.
Ask yourself: “Do I want the whole world to see this?”
And remember, once something’s posted online, it’s almost impossible to erase it.
Finally, despite people claiming they don't permit Facebook to use their stuff, as long as you use Facebook, you ARE permitting them to use whatever they want.
The first paragraph of Facebook's Terms of Service says,
These Terms therefore constitute an agreement between you and Meta Platforms, Inc. If you do not agree to these Terms, then do not access or use Facebook or the other products and services covered by these Terms.
The ONLY way to opt out, is to delete Facebook altogether.
So, it’s always a good idea to keep your private stuff... well, private!
