Wildwood Officials Speak Out About Proposed Summer Airshow
Officials involved with bringing an airshow to the Wildwoods this summer spoke out Thursday concerning a report from Fox 29's Bob Kelly that a deal had been struck for the show.
It turns out that Kelly had many of the details correct concerning the proposed airshow to be called Thunder Over the Waves, but was jumping ahead of the actual negotiations when he said that a deal for the airshow had been signed.
The Wildwoods Updates Attempt to Secure Air Show
According to a press release, the Wildwoods Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement and Development Authority is in negotiations to bring a "major airshow' to the beach in Wildwood this summer.
The Wildwoods offer a strong infrastructure and venue capacity to successfully host the airshow. VIP spectator bleachers on the beach, similar to those used for the Barefoot Country Music Festival, would provide ample seating. Additional exclusive VIP viewing areas at local hotels, piers and businesses would enhance the experience for attendees.
The dates being considered are Friday, Sept 5 for the practice day, and Saturday, Sept. 6th, for Thunder over the Waves.
While performer lineups are yet to be announced, the USAF Thunderbirds and the Navy’s Blue Angels will not be available for this year due to their long-term scheduling commitments, but other jet teams are being pursued.
No Agreement Has Been Reached For the Wildwood Airshow
Wildwoods officials say no agreement has been reached and no deal has been signed.
Beyond 2025, GWTIDA is also in discussions regarding potential airshow events for 2026 and beyond with plans to make the airshow a yearly September event.
The Wildwoods consider the aid show another way to extend the tourism season beyond the traditional Memorial Day to Labor Day timeframe.
The airshow would be a free event.
