Beware: Traffic Detours and Road Closings in the Cape May Area
The Summer of 2024 will be the 22nd year for the Robert Coombs Memorial Bay Run and the David C. Douglass Sr. Memorial Race. This 5-mile race and 2-mile Health Walk Run takes participants along sections of the Delaware Bay.
This race will take place the morning of Saturday, August 3rd with proceeds going to the Special Olympics of South Jersey. But this race requires multiple detours and closures in Lower Township, just over the bridge from the Cape May islands.
The Coombs/Douglass Memorial Bay Run will begin at the Town Bank Fire Hall with areas of the Villas, Town Bank, and North Cape May having road closures and detours from 8 am to 11 am on Saturday Morning.
What Roads Should You Avoid On Saturday, August 3rd?
The Lower Township Police Department has sent out a press release stating that motorists should avoid the following roads:
*Beach Drive
*Clubhouse Road
*Miramar Avenue
*Shore Drive
*Town Bank Road
The Lower Township Police Department also wants to advise people that Douglass Park, located at the end of Beach Drive in North Cape May, will be closed from 10 pm on Friday, August 2nd to the end of the race on Saturday, August 3rd.
The Five Mile Memorial Run will start at the Town Bank Fire Hall then proceed to turn right onto Clubhouse Drive and then north to Pinewood Road. Runners will then turn left onto Shore Road and head south to the end of Beach Drive. The final stretch of the Race will proceed back north and return to the Town Bank Fire Hall.
