New Jersey Shore Town Has Good News For Verizon Customers

The growing use and dependence on technology have created a demand for better signal coverage by customers. The wireless cellphone companies are competiting for your dollars and for more towers around the United States.

Over 30 new cell towers have been build in the last couple of years in New Jersey. Most of these are new Verizon Towers as the company looks to expand their 5G Network coverage to gain an edge over its rivals at T-Mobile.

When T-Mobile absorbed Sprint Wireless and brought all customers under the T-Mobile umbrella in 2020, the company would convert all of the Sprint Towers to the T-Mobile Network. This merger opened the T-Mobile 5G network to 97 percent of the United States and pushed the network past Verizon in some states, including New Jersey.

Now this South Jersey Coastal Community has approved the construction of a new cell tower that will strengthen Verizon's coverage for New Jersey's southernmost county.

New Cell Tower Coming To South Jersey in 2025

The popular New Jersey Shore Town of Ocean City has approved the building of a new 120-foot cell tower on the southern end of the island.

Cellco Partnership, on behalf of Verizon Wireless, filed a lawsuit against Ocean City in 2023 after the town denied the construction of a new cell tower on private property.  The original plan was to put the cell town on top of a real estate building located on 34th Street.

Ocean City passed an ordinance to prohibit the construction of cell towers on private property in the municipality. The follow-up approval for a new Verizon Cell Tower to be constructed on city-owned public land on the south end of the island brings an end to the litigation between the city and Cellco Partnership.

The new tower will strengthen the Verizon coverage area up to 25 miles from the tower's location.  For reference, within 25 miles from the southern end of Ocean City includes these South Jersey communities:

-Wildwood
-Egg Harbor Township
-Avalon
-Atlantic City
