Atlantic City, NJ Mayor Testified at Murder Trial That Led to Conviction
A Galloway Township, New Jersey man was convicted today of murder and other offenses.
What wasn’t released today is the fact that Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small testified at the trial, which assisted in the conviction of Shamar Scott, age 29, in the February 10, 2019, shooting death of Demond Tally.
The shooting took place right near Mayor Smalls’ home on Presbyterian Avenue in Atlantic City. Small had just entered his home and closed his front door when the fatal shots rang out.
The fatal shooting took place on the same evening as The Annual Marty Small Ball.
The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office released the following information about their latest achieved guilty verdict.
The resulting investigation was led by the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office and the Atlantic City Police Department. Scott was charged in this crime in April 2021. At the conclusion of a multi-week trial, Scott was found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt of:
Murder, a crime of the first-degree;
Conspiracy to commit murder, a crime of the first-degree
Unlawful possession of a handgun, a crime of the second-degree
Possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose, a crime of the second-degree
Possession of a firearm by a convicted person, a crime of the second-degree.
In addition to Scott, Steven Martinez and Deshawn Hose are also charged with participating in the conspiracy to murder the victim, Demond Tally. Those cases are pending trial, said the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.
Unrelated, yet of significance is the fact that Marty small and La’Quetta Small will both be appearing tomorrow before New Jersey Superior Court Judge Bernard DeLury … in an attempt to quash, subpoenas and suppress evidence gathered by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s office.
The hearing is related to the multiple child abuse charges that the Smalls’ face. Marty small was also separately indicted by an Atlantic County grand jury for alleged witness tampering.
