Camden, NJ, man gets 65 years in prison for brutal murder in 2019
A Camden man will likely never see the outside of a prison ever again after being sentenced for a brutal killing in 2019.
On April 17th, 45-year-old Corey James Malloy was convicted of first-degree murder in connection to the death of Nathaniel Perry on September 26th, 2019. The verdict was returned after a jury trial in Camden County Superior Court.
On Friday, Mallow was sentenced to 65 years in state prison. He'll be required to serve at least 85 percent, or 52 years, of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole. At that time, he would be roughly 97 years old.
According to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office, on that morning nearly five years ago, officers with the Camden County Police Department responded to a 9-1-1 call about an unconscious man on the 1200 block of Mechanic Street in Camden.
Upon arrival, Perry was found unconscious, bleeding heavily from his head and in a pool of blood.
Two eyewitnesses at the scene stated that they witnessed the assault and they told officers that Malloy was responsible.
Those eyewitnesses stated that Malloy punched Perry several times, and once he was on the ground, Malloy stomped on his head repeatedly until they intervened.
Mallow was taken into custody a short time later and his sneakers tested positive for the presence of Perry’s blood.
Perry was taken to Cooper University Hospital where he received treatment but died a few weeks later.
NJ.com, citing an interview with police, reported that the fight started after the two argued about their religious beliefs.
The State was represented at trial by Assistant Prosecutor Krystal Aquino of the Camden County Prosecutor's Office. The case was investigated by Detective Jeremy Jankowski of the Camden County Prosecutor's Office.
