A Barnegat woman has been sentenced to three years in state prison after she stole over $108,000 from a local marina.

52-year-old Lisa Dowd was sentenced on Friday after previously pleading guilty to theft.

An investigation by the Barnegat Township Police Department revealed that Dowd was an employee in the office of a marina in Barnegat Township.

Between January 2018 and December 2021, Dowd forged numerous checks drawn on various bank accounts belonging to the marina. Dowd made some of the forged checks payable to herself and deposited them in her personal checking account. Additional checks were forged and used to pay for her utilities and her personal credit card bill.

In total, authorities say $108,415 was stolen from the marina.
