Luke Bryan joined in as part of an all-star tribute to pop icon Lionel Richie at the 2016 Grammy Awards on Monday night (Feb. 15).

A few moments into his duet of ‘You Are’ with Blake Shelton at the 2012 ACM Awards, Lionel Richie sort of smiled, shook his head and recognized the strangeness of two grown, heterosexual men singing the love ballad together. Then he kept singing, turning in a fine topper to an enjoyable — albeit tame — country awards show.

An unlikely pairing, yes, but it's happening.  I know this is old(er) news, but I felt like I needed to dig a bit deeper.

Three artists with ties to country music will be amongst the four celebrities to star on ‘Duets,’ a new ABC series that pairs amateurs with well-known singers. Sugarland‘s Jennifer Nettles will join Kelly Clarkson, Lionel Richie and Robin Thicke on the competition show this summer.

The big country music event slated for April is the telecast of the Academy of Country Music Awards, but now there’s another significant televised event happening soon after.
