An investigation by ACPD detectives has resulted in two men being arrested in connection to a shooting in the city back in June. One of the two men arrested was one that was shot.

In the early morning hours of June 1st, officers responded to the area of Sovereign and Fairmount Avenues for a ShotSpotter alert. Cops say there was evidence of gunfire.

About an hour later, 31-year-old Anthony Allen, Jr., of Pleasantville, walked into Shore Medical Center in Somers Point with a gunshot wound.

During the investigation, detectives learned that Allen and another man, identified as 25-year-old Damond Whealton of Atlantic City, became involved in a dispute inside Proud Mary’s Bar. Cops say Allen and Whealton both left the bar and exchanged gunfire.

Criminal charges were filed against the two and warrants issued for their arrest. On August 8, Allen was arrested by ACPD detectives. On August 11th, Whealton was arrested by an ACPD officer.

Both Allen, Jr., and Whealton were charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and certain person not to possess a weapon. Both were remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
