All Vineland public schools and school buildings will be closed on Thursday after a social media post was made on Wednesday that threatened a possible shooting at Vineland High School.

Vineland Public Schools posted a message on their website Wednesday evening saying the decision to close the schools came "out of an abundance of caution."

It wasn't immediately clear if the threat was directed at Vineland North or South High School. Vineland Senior High School South holds classes for 11th and 12th-grade students; Vineland Senior High School North is where 9th and 10th-grade students attend classes.

The Vineland Daily Journal reports that Gia Messore, the Vineland School District's Public Information Officer, said the district was following police guidelines.

"The district was informed of a threat circulating on social media regarding a possible school shooting. We follow all Vineland Police Department recommendations to ensure a safe and secure environment for all students, staff, and visitors, and take all threats seriously."

The website message instructed all staff and students to stay home Thursday unless otherwise directed.

We will share more information when it becomes available. This also includes all district preschools. No remote/virtual classes will be held.

A decision of whether classes will be held on Friday will be announced on Thursday.
