Have you ever watched someone play the guitar and thought about how cool it would be to play one yourself? I mean, singing along to your favorite song is one thing but being able to play it is another.

If you're like me, there's no way I can devote a set amount of time each week to taking a traditional music lesson. Between work and life and everything in between, my free time is random even on the most structured of days.

That's why I'm so excited about Fret Zealot's revolutionary way to learn guitar. They offer thousands of videos and lessons taught by world-class instructors who show you the basics, the harder stuff, theory, and popular songs in many genres. You can pair that with a LED light system that attaches to your fretboard and shows you exactly where to press.

I have been primarily playing here at the station — that is when someone hasn't come into my studio and taken it down the hall to try it themselves. LOL. The videos are short enough that I can grab 10 or 20 minutes here and there.

I'm a true beginner who never played before, so I'm starting with learning the proper way to hold it, use a pick, finger positions, etc. They do a very nice job explaining the rudimentary skills for a novice. They're not making you jump head-first into a huge lesson right out of the gate.

And holy cow! Their app has over 80,000 songs on it! I think it would be cool to play Garth Brooks' "Friends in Low Places." The first few notes of that song on a guitar are instantly recognizable to any country music fan, so this is on my short list of goals.

I'll be sure to share my progress with you in the coming months, and if you're ready to learn guitar with light, be sure to check out fretzealot.com.
