Starting around Thanksgiving there will be no shortage of Christmas movies available on TV or through various streaming services and many of these will be traditional favorites.  However if you are desperate to get into the Christmas spirit you don’t have to wait because the Hallmark Channel has begun its “Countdown to Christmas” and a total of 40 new movies will premier this year.

Yes I am a sucker for these very hokey movies which do not contain any bad language or behavior and usually just one full kiss at the very end.  I guess part of the appeal is their simplicity resonates with many in these times we live in.  Between the war in the Middle East and the horrific mass shooting in Maine we are surrounded by sad and depressing news and a two-hour Hallmark Christmas movie allows us a brief escape.

The joke was always that this is where “B” actors end up when their careers spiral downwards or are about to come to an end.  However the popularity of these has also allowed many to reach a level not seen before as fans have helped launch the likes of Lacey Chabert, Andrew Walker, Bethany Joy Lenz, Tyler Hynes and many others.  Most are more recognizable by their faces rather than their names.

Anyway the 40 new movies started airing last weekend and new ones will debut every Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening right through December 17.  Of course you can also see plenty of your hokey holiday favorites from years past on either the main Hallmark Channel or its Movies & Mysteries channel…yes double your viewing pleasure.
