Ambitious, 34-Mile Camden County, NJ Trail Project Just Got a $19M Grant

A very cool project is underway in Camden County, New Jersey to form a multi-use trail that would go all the way from Camden to Winslow Township. Recently, the project received some major federal funding to get it going.

Wow! This biking and walking trail is being developed to stretch 34 miles! It would take you from the Ben Franklin Bridge to Pinelands National Reserve, Patch.com reports. How cool is that?

The U.S. Department of Transportation and an organization called RAISE (Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity) believe so strongly the Camden County community could benefit from the trail project that they just awarded it a federal grant to the tune of $19 million.

That's a heck of an endorsement. One that makes Camden County Commissioner Jeff Nash very happy. In a statement Nash said, "We see the importance in investing in accessible, top quality outdoor spaces and we are thrilled that the Department of Transportation feels the same way."

The trail project is called LINK, and its reportedly part of the Circuit Trails network of multi-use trails in and around Philly, according to Patch.com.

LINK will consist of pedestrian and biking trails, a walking path, three pedestrian bridges, and more.

Most of the federal funding granted to LINK will be used to construct the hardest part of the trail project, the part that will connect Camden to Pennsauken and Cherry Hill, Patch.com reports. LINK will also offer those living in Camden safer, more accessible routes to the county's many parks and businesses.

There's no word on exactly when the trail project will get underway or when it would be completed by, but I think it's going to be an amazing thing for the residents of Camden County once it's done.
