Atlantic City Named Top East Coast Golf Trip by Golf Digest

I was recently at a local golf course on a hot summer day.

It was the Friday of the Fourth of July weekend at about 3 p.m. in the afternoon, and it was over 100 degrees, but people were still outside playing golf.

I was there to watch a World Cup soccer game in the air conditioning, but people were golfing in the extreme heat, which was mind-boggling; but hey, we have nice golf courses around here.

Golf Digest Names the Best East Coast Golf Trips

I'm not sure the people playing were locals, but they could have been here on vacation, taking advantage of some of the best golfing spots in the country, at least according to Golf Digest, which came up with their 5 best golf trips on the East Coast.

Writer Alex Myers came up with five spots on the East Coast, and the criteria was nothing south of Virginia made the list, which means no Myrtle Beach was included. The list included spots that were seven hours or less in the car from the New York City area.

Atlantic City Cracked the Top 5

Coming in at No. 5 on the list was Atlantic City, NJ.

For each destination, the writer mentioned three courses, labeled the meat & potatoes and one additional high-roller's pick.

The 'Meat and Potatoes' Public Courses

Seaview Bay Course: Seaview's Bay course, a 6,247-yard, par-71 layout, has a similar look and feel to Atlantic City Country Club, playing along Reeds Bay with views of the distant AC skyline
Ballamor Golf Club: In a sneaky area of good public golf, Ballamor stands out as one of the best in South Jersey.
Twisted Dune Golf Club: Twisted Dune offers enough gnarly lies, bump-and-run opportunities and sand to satisfy. The par-72, 7,248-yard layout has all the bunkers and waste areas you can handle.

The High-Roller Selection

Atlantic City Country Club isn’t public anymore, but it doesn’t hurt to ask. Of course, going there puts you nearer to actual Atlantic City, where you can actually do some high rolling at the tables.
