The World Famous Anchorage Tavern at 823 Bay Avenue in Somers Point.

Sure, being featured on "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" raised the profile of The Anchorage Restaurant — but locals didn't need any convincing. The tavern has been a Somers Point staple for more than a century, and New Jerseyans have watched it evolve into one of the most lauded eateries in the state.

One of the thing that stands out about The Anchorage is that its the oldest continuously operated business establishment in Somers Point, dating back to 1874 and many locals know about their generous portion sizes.

New owners, Michael and Tracey Fitzgerald took over the place in 2023 and have added not only amazing seafood, but other options to the extensive menu.

They have a ton of seafood options on the menu, ranging from appetizers to full entree's. For starters, they have Baked Lobster Macaroni & Cheese, Oyster Shooters, Drunken Shrimp Cocktail, Clams on The Halfshell, Oysters Rockefeller, Buffalo Shrimp, Calamari, Hot Dungeness Crab Dip, Shrimp Florentine, Steamed Clams, Clams Casino, Oysters Wasabi, Blacken Mahi Wasabi, and Jumping Barbecue Shrimp. They have also have a Crab Cake Sandwich and a Fresh Catch Sandwich.

As far as seafood entree's go, Fresh Flounder Your Way, Lobster Franchaise, Shrimp Trio, Broiled Seafood Combination, Maryland Style Crab Cakes, Bourbon Street Mahi, Seafood Imperial, Hawaiian Grouper, Salmon Oscar, Horseradish Encrusted Salmon, Mahi Mahi Imperial and even more options!

My last stop at The Anchorage, I went with the Bourbon Street Mahi which features sweet mahi fillets lightly blackened and sautéed in butter and garlic with Andouille sausage, diced onions and tomato flambé with brandy and served over rice.

So next time you think about seafood, think about stopping by the World Famous Anchorage, you might just have the best seafood in the state.
