Here are 7 soups to try in South Jersey before the winter ends

The official start of Spring is Tuesday, March 19.

In South Jersey, the spring season can have a cold, almost winter like feeling.  Rain and wind (and sometimes snow) are common almost through April, but one positive is there are plenty of great soups to try in the area while the weather is still chilly.

The website PhillyEater.com came up with various soups from South Jersey to create the ultimate list of great soups with seven soups from our area to try before the summer season gets here.

Lets start off with the French Onion Soup at The Smithville Inn.

The crispy onion topped French onion soup at The Smithville Inn is certain to warm up any cold winter day. Enjoy a crock of this cheesy vegetable soup all on its own or as a precursor to the filet medallions sandwich or chicken pot pie.

You can try this soup at 1 North New York Road in Galloway.

Next up we head down the Parkway a bit, getting off at exit 30 in Somers Point to try the Creamy Crab Bisque at The Crab Trap.

The Crab Trap is known for its expansive seafood menu, so it’s no wonder that a seafood-laden soup would be on the roster at this Somers Point restaurant. You’ll find a few different soup varieties on the menu; however, it’s the creamy crab bisque that is a popular draw for diners. The rich and creamy bisque features generous portions of crabmeat making for a filling dish to enjoy all on its own or as a welcome first course.

From Somers point, over the bridge to Ocean City to try the Baked Jersey Tomato Soup at Varsity Inn

As we head further south, we find the She Crab Soup at the Deauville Inn in Strathmere.

The Deauville Inn offers bayside views and an expansive dining menu where soup options are plentiful. One soup offering that receives rave reviews is the she crab soup, a rich and creamy concoction of crabmeat, porcini mushrooms, and sherry.

As we travel down to Seven Mile Island and head into Stone Harbor, we have another great soup to try, the New England Clam Chowder at Sax at the Reeds

Sax at the Reeds, located within The Reeds at Shelter Haven resort, has the soup you’re searching for when vacationing down the shore. The New England clam chowder with bacon, leeks, and Yukon gold potatoes is sure to pique the interest of seafood soup lovers who adore a thick, rich chowder.

Finally we are going down to Cape May to historic Cape May and Congress Hall to try the Chicken Noodle at Blue Pig Tavern.
