Atlantic City, NJ, Man Caught With Gun and Drugs Goes to Prison

An Atlantic City man who was caught with a gun and drugs during a traffic stop earlier this year has been sentenced to several years behind bars.

On Monday, 20-year-old Khalif Chambers received seven years in prison on charges of unlawful possession of a handgun and possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute.

It was on January 6th when an Atlantic City police officer saw a vehicle obstructing traffic.

The officer stopped that vehicle and a drug detection canine positively alerted to the presence of narcotics inside, which led to a search.

That search yielded a loaded handgun under Chambers' seat along with approximately one ounce of crack cocaine and cash.

During his guilty plea, Chambers admitted he intended to distribute the cocaine.

Under the terms of a plea agreement, Chambers must serve at least 42 months of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
