Neighbors Help Contain Kitchen Fire in Egg Harbor Township
- Two separate house fires, one partially contained by neighbors, kept EHT emergency crews busy Monday
Neighbors in Egg Harbor Township are being credited with limiting the damage during a house fire on Monday evening.
The EHT Police Department says they were called to 803 Jonathan Court just after 5 PM when they received a call from someone who could see flames through the window of a home.
At the scene, officers saw heavy smoke inside. The two neighbors who called in the fire had broken a window and used a fire extinguisher and a nearby garden hose, which kept the fire around a trash can in the kitchen.
Due to the smoke, officers were not able to enter the home; however, a caller said the homeowner's vehicle was not there and firefighters eventually confirmed the house was empty.
After the blaze was extinguished, investigators determined the home was livable and the homeowner was able to return.
At this time, the cause of the fire has not been determined.
Another EHT House Fire
Just hours before that call, firefighters were dispatched to a home on Laguna Drive. There, a large two-story home was significantly damaged.
In that blaze, one firefighter was injured. Police say that the fire appears to be accidental, likely caused by a heating unit in the home's attic.
