Authorities say a woman from Elmer has died following a crash involving a truck early Thursday morning and the driver of that truck now finds himself behind bars.

Just after midnight, Bridgeton police officers responded to N. Burlington Rd. and Indian Ave. for a report of a serious accident.

An investivation revealed that a 2019 Nissan Rogue being driven by 53-year-old Kimberly Cox was traveling northbound on N. Burlington Road when it struck a 1999 Freightliner Truck, operated by 35-year-old Edgar Pinatorres of Clifton, which was pulling onto N. Burlington Road from Indian Avenue.

Cox sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Cooper Hospital in Camden. Police say she died from her injuries that afternoon.

Truck driver charged

Pinatorres was charged with operating an uninsured motor vehicle, operating an unregistered vehicle, driving with a suspended driver’s license, and careless driving.

Pinatorres was also arrested on an unrelated warrant and committed to the Cumberland County
Jail where he remains.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed upon completion, according to police.

The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
