Busy South Jersey Highway Closing For Railroad Track Replacement
Road construction is set to begin later this month, impacting thousands of drivers in Atlantic County.
NJ Transit to Work on Route 54 Railroad Crossing
The Town of Hammonton says New Jersey Transit will be working on the railroad crossing, including replacing sections of tracks, on Route 54, locally known as 12th Street and Belleview Avenue, right in the middle of town.
Route 54 will be closed in both directions between Railroad Avenue and Egg Harbor Road from 7 AM to 5 PM beginning Friday, August 22nd, through Friday, August 29th.
A detour will be in place and work is subject to weather delays.
Data from the state shows about 15,000 vehicles use this intersection daily.
NJ Transit Rail Service Disruptions
Those who use the Atlantic City Rail Line will also be impacted. New Jersey Transit offered the following information, with more details being released on August 11th:
- On Sunday, August 24th, from 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM, and on Tuesday, August 26th, from 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM, trains will only operate between Philadelphia's 30th Street Station and NJT's Atco Station.
- Customers boarding at Atlantic City, Absecon, Egg Harbor City, and Hammonton stations will use NJT's 554 bus to Lindenwold, where they can connect to NJT trains or PATCO.
- Customers boarding at 30th Street, Pennsauken, Cherry Hill, and Lindenwold, who are traveling beyond Atco, should transfer to the 554 bus at the Lindenwold Station.
- In Atlantic City, Jitney service will operate between the rail terminal and the bus terminal, where the 554 bus originates/terminates.
Town officials say, "Your patience during this inconvenience is greatly appreciated."
