Just a week after the new phone went on sale and its new operating system was made available, Apple halted downloads of iOS8 after users found they could no longer make phone calls and they could no longer use the feature allowing them to unlock the phone with their fingerprint.

"We are actively investigating these reports and will provide information as quickly as we can," Apple initially said in a statement according to the tech website CNET. "In the meantime, we have pulled back the iOS 8.0.1 update."

Late Wednesday, Apple offered users a way to manually reverse the update provided earlier in the day. It involves connecting the phone to a Mac or Windows computer and downloading a file to restore the older software. Apple offered a Web page with instructions: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6487 .

Users also complained that their phones, mostly the iPhone 6 Plus, were bendable when it was put in a pocket  according to ZDNet.com A video demonstrating the bend, which many blame on the device's aluminum frame, fueled the fire on social media. ZDNet reports that Apple will replace faulty devices.

SquareTrade Chief Marketing Officer Ty Shay said that after reports of bending circulated online, two staffers at his firm tried to bend a pair of 6 Plus phones. The male staffer was able to duplicate the results from the video, while the female staffer could not. He said the bent phone appeared to still function normally.
