Lady Antebellum singer Hillary Scott has revealed the secret heartbreak that inspired her latest song, “Thy Will.” In a television interview Monday morning (June 20), the singer shares that the song was inspired after she suffered a miscarriage.

Scott and her husband, drummer Chris Tyrell, have a 2-year-old daughter, Eisele. The 30-year-old singer cried as she told Good Morning America that she suffered a miscarriage while carrying their second child last fall, Yahoo! News reports.

She says miscarriages aren’t talked about much. “I also feel like there’s this pressure that you’re just supposed to be able to snap your fingers and continue to walk through life like it never happened,” she adds.

Scott poured her heartbreak into “Thy Will,” a gospel song that is the first single from her upcoming gospel album with her family. She wrote the song in the middle of  “experiencing everything that comes with a miscarriage. So it was my most raw place that I could’ve ever been when this song truly poured out of me.”

The singer says the experience has made her appreciate her bond with her daughter even more. “I’m a different mom to her now … I hug her a lot tighter.”

Hillary Scott & the Scott Family will release their album, Love Remains, on July 29. She has recently reunited with her Lady A bandmates to hit the road again, after taking a hiatus of several months.

“After going through everything that I’ve gone through in the past year, but also just the process of making this record, I know I’m coming back into the mindset of Lady Antebellum … I’m very grateful,” she says.
