As we get closer to the holiday season many people will look to local food banks and soup kitchens to donate and/or volunteer. While donating/volunteering during the holiday season is a good thing, food banks and soup kitchens are in a constant need throughout the year.

There are many different ways to help out our local food banks, food pantries, and soup kitchens throughout the year. All three of these institutions need volunteers, donations of food, and donations of money.

FoodBanksSJ.org features a list of the items they are in need of most throughout the year. Some of these food include:

  • Peanut butter
  • Pancake mix
  • Applesauce
  • Canned tuna
  • Granola bars
  • Pasta
  • Rice

To see the full list go to FoodBanksSJ.com.

The page also included ways you can help such as hosting a food drive, dropping off food at the food bank, or host a Canstruction event. Their site also includes information on when you can volunteer at the Food Bank of South Jersey.

If you want to find local food pantries close by, FoodPantries.org has the full list by town of food pantries in New Jersey.
