Pedestrian Struck and Killed in Egg Harbor Township

Police in Egg Harbor Township say a pedestrian was killed on the Black Horse Pike in an accident early Sunday morning.

Police say David M. Byrnes, 51, of Brick was struck by a vehicle driven by Israel Torres, 29, of Ventnor. The accident was reported at 12:43am in front of the Wingate Hotel.

Police say Torres was eastbound on the Black Horse Pike when Byrnes walked into the road.Torres attempted to swerve away, but his vehicle still struck Byrnes, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation.
