State officials in New Jersey are thinking about adopting a state song for New Jersey - or, maybe give the honor to several songs.

I'm hear to tell you: they pretty much all suck.

I hate them. All of them.

They sound tired and old.

Is this how we want our state represented in song? Nope.

Let's skip the state song, New Jersey, until something better comes along.

I couldn't find all the contenders - or all the complete songs, but here's what I found:

1. Red Mascara - "I'm From New Jersey" (I think Red is a guy....)

2. Patrick Finley - "New Jersey My Home"

3. Nelson Trout - "New Jersey, U.S.A."

4. Mark and Ellen Winter - "Be Proud to Be in New Jersey"

5. Terre McPheeters and lyrics by the 1996 4th grade class of the Van Holten school in Bridgewater.

I can't find any audio or video of this song. I'm confidant that since it was written by a bunch of fourth graders, I won't like it.
