2018 marks the 20th year of Cat Country 107.3!

This is one of many special articles commemorating our 20 years of serving South Jersey.

Here, we look at the 20 most notable songs in Cat Country 107.3's history. These aren't necessary the best songs, but these are 20 songs that, I believe, help tell our story.

  • 1

Two Pina Coladas - Garth Brooks

This was one of the first songs played on Cat Country in the spring of 1998. It was THE summer song of our first summer. With Garth Brooks heading to Philadelphia at the end of the summer in1998, this was jamming!

    This Kiss - Faith Hill

This was the world's big introduction to Faith Hill. When it came out, "This Kiss" was catchy and different. Coincidentally, Faith played the Mark Etess Arena at the Trump Taj Mahal in late Septemeber 1998.

Wide Open Spaces - The Dixie Chicks

The first few summers of Cat Country were ruled by the Dixie Chicks. This fun, whimsical song fit in with the South Jersey beaches and boardwalks. Martie and Emily spent some summers growing up in the Somers Point area, and the trio was on the verge of super stardom. Then, the bottom fell out....

  • 4

Man I Feel Like a Woman - Shania Twain

Shania Twain was a phenomenon at the start of Cat Country. Anything she put out popped out of the radio speakers.

  • 5

The Girls of Summer - Neal McCoy

The first of several songs on this list that weren't bit hits nationally, but Cat Country listeners loved them. Several "CarTunes" request lines burned out because of the summer requests for this song. It was hot for several summers.

  • 6

    Carlene - Phil Vassar

Cat Country listeners have loved Phil Vassar! We could have easily listed "Just Another Day in Paradise" here instead.

  • 7

How Do You Like Me Now - Toby Keith

Between his many appearances at the Trump Taj Mahal (and later, one appearance at Revel), and his shows each year in Camden and Holmdel, Toby showed New Jersey a lot of love. We loved him back with lots of his songs, especially this one.

  • 8

God Bless The USA - Lee Greenwood

The song was a standard, but the events of 9-11 brought it back to the forefront. In the days and weeks after the tragedy, Cat Country played it a lot. A few years ago, I stood 10 feet away from Greenwood as he sang the song at the Atlantic City Airshow. I had big goosebumps that day.

Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue (The Angry American) - Toby Keith

Where Were You (When The World Stop Turning) - Alan Jackson

A song that the country needed, exactly when we needed it. Tell me it didn't choke you up the first 200 times you heard it.

  • 11

Only in America - Brooks and Dunn

I'm not sure who played the Trump Taj Mahal more in the last 20 years - Toby Keith or these guys. Whenever Brooks and Dunn played the Taj, it was an event!

  • 12

    Chris Cagle - Laredo

Chris Cagle played our very first Cat Country Backyard BBQ. It was in Marmora. "Laredo" had just been released.

  • 13

I Miss My Friend - Darryl Worley

Darryl Worley is just about the sweetest guy to ever be on Country Radio. We had Darryl do an acoustic show at the old Sweetwater Casino, and it was literally magical. His voice was strong your could feel his songs hit you in the chest.

  • 14

    Country Rock Star - Marcel

We had Marcel, Anthony Smith, and David Nail due an acoustic show at the old "Pistol Pete's" in Pleasantville. Marcel and I formed a friendship, and he came back to do several BBQs and shows with us. "Country Rock Star" was a bigger hit on Cat Country than anywhere else. Marcel has written songs for others and is currently producing music videos for other artists. Anthony Smith is a well respected songwriter. It took David Nail quite a while, but he finally has had some hits.

  • 15

    Boondocks - Little Big Town

Cat Country was a strong supporter of LBT from the beginning. After hardly any commercial success, they went back to real jobs, but then their career had a resurgence with "Boondocks." Now, their making hits and winning tons of awards. We remember them when they played a backyard on Robert Best Road in EHT.

What Was I Thinking - Dierks Bentley

I've known Bentley personally more than any other artist. The week this song went to #1 he played our Backyard BBQ on Dogwood Avenue in Egg Harbor Township. He and I then went to the old Berkshire Grill and had a few beers to celebrate his #1 song.

  • 17

Redneck Yacht Club - Craig Morgan

One of our most requested CarTunes songs ever. You'd think we lived near the water or something.

  • 18

    Tim McGraw - Taylor Swift

Who's this young girl who spent summers in Stone Harbor? Cat Country was the first station on earth to play this song - the first Taylor Swift song ever distributed. I wonder whatever happened to her?

  • 19

Honky Tony Badonkabonk - Trace Adkins

You requested it. A lot. Every day for years.

  • 20

Beer in Mexico - Kenny Chesney

Who could forget the first few notes of the song being played on that massive stage on the beach in Wildwood in 2012? If you were there, it will forever be your favorite concert experience forever.
