According to 97.3 ESPN, Chris Wheeler and Gary Matthews will not return to the broadcast booth for the 2014 Phillies season.

Wheeler will not return to the booth after nearly four decades with the organization, according to the Associated Press.  Wheels will return to the Phillies in a new role that has not been announced.

Gary Matthews may also return in a different role.

According to NBC Philadelphia,

"I enjoy working for the Phillies and want to retire as a Phillie," Matthews said in a phone conversation. "This is a great opportunity for me to remain in the area and also do my charity work."

The decision came as a new television contract was signed between the Phillies and NBC Universal and Comcast SportsNet.
