Man Who Saved Two Drowning Boys in Mays Landing Dies
There is tragic news concerning the man who came to the rescue of two boys who went swimming Wednesday in a prohibited spot of Weymouth Furnace in Hamilton Township.
Man Who Rescued Two Drowning Swimmers Has Died
The man who saved two children from drowning Wednesday in the Great Egg Harbor River at Weymouth Furnace County Park in Atlantic County has died, according to Fox 29 News.
He has been identified as Pablo Hernando Cruz, 49, of Mays Landing.
It's thought that Cruz saw the boys struggling to swim and went into the river to rescue them.
Atlantic Couty Executive Officer Extends Condolences
Both children were taken to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia on Wednesday afternoon and were later released.
Atlantic County Executive Dennis Levinson extended his condolences to the Cruz family and urged park visitors to "heed the warnings" about swimming in the river.
"The water is deep and can be dangerous for swimmers which is why we prohibit swimming. "We don’t want any family to have to deal with this type of tragedy."
Pablo Hernando Cruz has sadly died a hero.
