Detectives are investigating the fatal shooting of a man in Camden early Saturday morning.

Camden County Prosecutor Grace MacAulay's office says the Camden County Police Department received a ShotSpotter activation for gunfire in the area of the 3000 block of South Congress Road around 2:30 AM along with 9-1-1 calls about a person who had been shot in the area.

Officers responded and they located a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim, later identified as 44-year-old Maurice McCargo of Camden, was taken to Cooper University Hospital where he was pronounced dead about a half hour later.

Authorities say this investigation is active and ongoing at this time.
