Atlantic City, NJ Area: Danger With This Internet Scam

I want to take this opportunity to warn you that there is an internet scam being perpetrated - that upon first glance may make your heart skip a beat.

However, as the Bible says, “Let your heart not be troubled.”

Here’s the story.

On Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at 3:56 p.m., I received an email title “Court Summons.”

That’ll get your attention each and every time.

Below that read a “Court Case Number.”

It then said that I was suspected of violating a federal law.

Let me share the entire email with you, so that you know what to be on the lookout for:

I spent some time investigating this scam. It has been around since at least 2014.

If you click on any of the links, it carries you to a potentially harmful virus that contains ransomware.

The phony court summons doesn’t even have a specific date for you and your attorney to attend a so-called “related hearing.”

It includes a time and that the “related hearing will be held next week at 3:30 p.m. in courtroom 6B,” followed by the phony case number.

It also doesn’t tell you what court you are allegedly scheduled to appear.

it doesn’t have to provide normal, customary specifics … because it includes just enough to make you think that you are in trouble.

The scamsters know that it is easy to get you scared when you think that you may face some legal peril.

They’re looking for a certain percentage of the recipients to fall for their scam.

Please don’t be one of them.
