A Gloucester County man is facing charges after he allegedly attempted an armed robbery to steal a teenager’s e-bike over the weekend.

The Glassboro Police Department says the incident happened at about 1:00 Saturday afternoon, March 14th.

A 16-year-old told authorities he left his home on his e-bike and was riding in the area of Higgins and MLK Drives, where he was approached by a man who asked about his bike.

According to police, the suspect, later identified as 20-year-old Nathan Walker of Glassboro, walked a short distance away to make a phone call, and when he returned, he produced a knife and stood in front of the victim so he couldn't ride away.

The suspect told the victim he was not leaving with his bike and then forcefully pulled him from the bike and a physical altercation ensued on the ground. The struggle continued for a short period of time and the victim was eventually able to get on his bike and flee the area with the suspect running after him.

Officers located Walker and took him into custody without incident. He was remanded to the Salem County Jail on charges of first-degree attempted armed robbery, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, and simple assault (disorderly persons).

The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
