Mays Landing, N.J. — A Mays Landing man has been sentenced to five years in state prison for strangling two different women on two separate occasions.

27-year-old Jerry Vargas-Perez was sentenced Friday. Under the No Early Release Act, he must serve 85% of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole.

He had previously pleaded guilty on February 27th to two counts of second-degree aggravated assault on a domestic violence victim.

Two Victims, Two Incidents

According to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office, on November 26th, 2022, Atlantic City police responded to a domestic violence call near Winchester and North Providence Avenues.

The victim told officers that Vargas-Perez had started an argument that turned physical, pushing her onto a bed, grabbing her by the neck, and strangling her until she nearly lost consciousness. He was arrested at the scene.

Nearly two years later, on July 6th, 2024, Hamilton Township police were called to a home on Kenwood Court for another domestic violence assault involving a different victim.

She told investigators Vargas-Perez had again started an argument that turned physical, placing his hands around her neck and strangling her until she could not breathe. He was arrested at the scene again.
